Alameda Supervisor Keith Carson gives welcoming remarks on the importance of drawing local groups together to network and coordinate their progressive agendas and calendars.

Supervisor Carson, who convened the Socially Responsible Network urges people to help make the organization independently sustainable. So far it has been supported in large part by Carson's initiative.

The Youth Empowerment panelists prepare to address the group on how to reach, energize and activate young people to step in with new ideas and energy to the progressive movement.

Local groups like Yes on Measure Z (the Oakland Cannabis Initiative) were on hand to explain why their causes deserved the broad and deep support of the East Bay's progressive community. Measure Z was passed with a 65% YES vote in the November 2004 ballot.

The non profits panel discusses how to work in an election year without running afoul of the tax reporting and activities laws. The SRN has released a resource manual to help people stay in line with the rules.

Felicia Jordan (left) made certain that the meeting stayed on schedule and that all the various organizations had an opportunity to make announcements to the general meeting .

A calendar of activities was posted for groups to list their events and share. Click here to see the October calendar in PDF format. Click here to see the November calendar.

Make sure you can make it to our next membership meeting in early 2005! See you there.
